Day 6

Hi There

I do hope you have all had a safe and fun fourth. Not much celebrating here but Jim was in good spirits and says he pain level had dropped quite a bit.

All of his medications have been restored and everything seems to be working as it should.

Doctor says his white count went up a bit but that is to be expected and he has gained much more ground then he has lost and we are not to worry about it. So we remain guardedly optimistic.

Jim had a CAT scan late yesterday, unfortunately we wont get the results until tomorrow because today is a holiday.  :(

He had a dreadful night. The tube in his stomach was not draining and that stuff had to come out. It did, often and a lot, on everyone and everything. He said it was payback for all the torment they’ve put him thru but I know felt badly about it. Everyone was sure the equipment was malfunctioning and worked feverishly to repair it. Eventually an X-ray revealed the tube had moved out of his stomach. Once it was replaced it began draining properly and relief was immediate.

Except for a few minuets here and there I haven’t seem Jim sleep since long before he was admitted. He slept for several hours today. It really was wonderful to watch him sleeping so peacefully at last.

　

　

Today’s card was inspired by an ad for Sears Fourth Of July Sale. The sentiment was computer generated. I smeared the ink a bit when I distressed it with Tea Dye DI but time is not on my side so it had to do.  Not a very good photo either the scoring doesn't show well. 

They say once a Marine always a Marine so you must never say was a Marine. Jim is a Marine and thus loved the card.

Day 5

I’m a bit earlier today and happy to say Jim is in much better spirits. Thank heaven, yesterday wasn’t very pleasant for anyone around him. He is quite cheerful and looks a bit more rested today.

Also happy to report all of his tests continue to show improvement, ever so slight but improvement nonetheless. He still has a very long ways to go but we are thankful he is headed in the right direction.

If it’s not one thing it’s another. Apparently at the same time his other medications were discontinued Jim’s medication for water retention had been discontinued again without discussion and for reasons that defy reason. His feet are swollen like balloons. We really don’t need for him to go into kidney failure or congestive heart failure now do we. He says he wasn’t very nice to the doctor but doctor has agreed it should be restored immediately.

I must say for the most part the people in charge of Jim’s care have been wonderful but as in every part of life there are always a few who can really make a mess of things.

I keep getting the asked ‘Why can’t they just do this, that or the next thing to get him better faster?” They have been doing this for many years. They’ve probably tried this, that and the next thing and found it didn’t work. We have to trust his treatment plan is the best way to treat him and how ever long it takes it will be successful.

Jim was admitted to the hospital on Friday. I’ve made a card for him every day beginning on Sat. I’ve been posting them one day late so I am playing catch up today with two cards to share.

When I first bought my SB Floral Flourishes I cut the entire set just to see what they looked like, these are bits from that test run.

Making masculine cards is more then a little difficult for me. Last night I was a total blank. My Mojo had gone into hiding. I finally admitted defeat and went to bed afraid I wouldn’t be able to achieve my goal of making him a card every day he is in the hospital. This morning I turned on the news and saw a dragster and the idea for this card was born. I Goggled drag racers clipart and found this image. Print, cut and emboss with SB Labels Seven. The sentiment was computer generated and cut by hand.

Oscar the Grouch

Good Evening

Sorry for being so late, Blogger woudn't let me post ealier and I fell sound asleep after dinner. I’m not surprised, this has been an exhausting experience.    

Jim was definitely feeling better today. I know because he complained about everything. He had been to sick to complain before, now we’ll just call him Oscar the Grouch. I’m sure it’s no fun being in his shoes. He is most upset that he isn’t allowed to have a sip of water and they limit the amount of ice chips he can have. He remains unconvinced it is harmful to him.

His lung specialist was consulted and all his medications have been restored. He had a much more comfortable night. Most notably his hick ups and diaphragm spasms have diminished. Those are so painful for him  (not to mention difficult to watch) and his oxygen saturation monitor would go off with each spasm. Neither he nor his poor roommate got any sleep as a result. I am sure Luis was not sorry to see him go when they moved Jim to another room late yesterday.

He is still in pain at the area of the infection/obstruction and still suffering miserably from stomach acid. I’m afraid until the infection is cleared neither will improve. His tests are improving ever so slightly but he has a very long way to go and surgery is still our greatest fear. 

 This is Jim’s card for the day. I found a negative scrap, trimmed it to size and printed the rest.

When I came home Friday evening after getting Jim settled at the hospital his dog ran around the house inside and out looking for him. When she couldn’t find him she climbed on his bed and cried. It was the most mournful cry I’ve ever heard. The poor thing is so sad and blames me for taking her Daddy way. I tired to take a photo of her to use on a card but she wont look at me. Turns her head from me every time I get close.

Dosen't she look sad.  Jim absolutely loves having the photos of his little girl and has been showing it to everyone who will stand still long enough to look.

Someone said they hoped Jim’s disposition would be better tomorrow. I don’t like being the victim of it but if it means he is getting well I’ll take him just the way he is. I’ll be back tomorrow hopefully a little earlier.

Good News Bad News

Hi There Dear Friends and Family

Thank you all for your kind words of support and encouragement and for all your prayers. I’m sorry I don’t have the luxury of time nor the energy to respond to each of you individually but I do appreciate each of you more then you can know. Rather then try to answer all your lovely e mails I will try to update my blog daily so you can all come here and be kept informed.

The Good News is Jim is improving. His doctors are encouraged and we are now all optimistic that he wont need surgery but he still has a long way to go before they can say that for sure. He was more comfortable yesterday and not using the morphine much but very uncomfortable and using the morphine again today. None the less he does look better,  I can’t say good but at least better. 
We've learned we had been misinformed, he only has one problem, the obstruction is being caused by the infection and not two separate issues.

The Bad News is it is the weekend. Jim is at the mercy of doctors he doesn‘t know and they don’t know him or his history. I can’t help but wonder if they even give a damn. Yesterday, without discussing it with Jim and for reasons that defy all reason, someone decided to discontinue his emphysema medications. He had an absolutely miserable night. Thankfully they did not take away his rescue inhaler or his nebulizer treatments but today he is still suffering the effects of not having the other medications. I am grateful Jim is alert and able to be proactive in his care. The nurse told me he really gave the doctor an earful and his medications will be restored. I have requested his pulmonologist (lung specialist) be consulted just to be on the safe side.

At this point the very last thing Jim needs is to eat or drink but the hospital dietician called him last night and asked him what he would like for breakfast. Apparently someone had ordered meals for him. God save us.

I have decided to try to make Jim a card every day. This is the card I made for him on Sat. Quite simple, a Campbell’s soup can. I couldn’t resist the inside.

I’ll try to update you all tomorrow.

A quick post tonight to ask for your prayer for my Jim. What he thought was a nasty bug has turned into far worst.

After 11 days of Jim refusing to go to a doctor I could not stand it any longer and demanded he go this morning. I took him to the ER and after many hours of blood tests, CAT scans and assorted other test we learned Jim has a bowel obstruction in one part of his bowel and an infection in another area.



As many of you know Jim has end stage emphysema. If he were a young healthy man they would operate. Because his lungs are so very bad they are doing everything in their power to avoid surgery. If they do operate they would have no option but to use a breathing tube and put him to sleep. If they do it Jim will probably never be able to get off the breathing tube for the rest of his life. This is something Jim has been terrified of for years.

Please pray that the treatment plan is successful. He is in quite a bit of pain and prayers for his comfort would be nice but praying he doesn’t need surgery is more important at the moment.

In my defense Jim hid a great deal from me. He hid his pain and hid his distended belly from me and lead me to believe he was getting better. Had I know he was as ill as he is I would have taken him to the ER a week ago. Why on earth he did this is completely beyond me except he is just about the most stubborn man I‘ve ever known.

Thank you all for your support, cards, calls, gifts and comments. Each one touched me and meant a great deal.

I’ve managed to steal time away from my maddening world long enough to make a card for my friend’s wedding anniversary. 

Not the best photo but it'll have to do as I don't have time to take another. 
I found these Mrs. Grossman’s butterfly stickers in the closeout bin for 50 cents. Everything else came from my stash and scraps files. I’m entering this in Mojo Monday 246. And Di’s Pixies Crafty Snippets Challenge 26.

Oniony Days

I made this card as a way of encouragement for my sister Donna.

Last night I read a fabulous post by Darnell at djkardkreations. Darnell is a new playmate in the Snippets playground. She says as opposed to life handing you lemons when you are going thru really tough times it is more like life handing you an onion as our problems are usually multilayered. I invite you to read her post here as she expresses it so eloquently.

Donna and her family are going thru a very rough patch right now. Darnell calls them Oniony Days which seems so very appropriate as there really are many layers to this family’s problems. It will take a long time, a lot of determination and no doubt many tears for this family to peel thru the layers of this situation and get back to some resemblance of normalcy. Donna is having an especially difficult time dealing with everything. If you would say a prayer or send positive thoughts her way it would be much appreciated.

　
It is amazing to me how one person’s problems can act like a pebble in a pond and affect those around them. At the moment I am emotionally caught up in the ripples of several different situations. The worst of it is there is nothing I can do to help any of these situations improve. Everyone has to peel their own onion but I am feeling somewhat emotionally overwhelmed and useless to those I love and care for.

At the moment I am finding it difficult to leave cheerful comments on your blogs. Until I can get my head in a better place and get my spirits lifted I am taking a little brake from blogland.

I have a little boy pop up birthday card to share. I’ve used another one of those lenticular Valentine trading cards. This one is Transformers. 

Different angle

Kids love Transformers and they love that the image changes. I’ve embossed sparkly card stock with the Stars EF them fussy cut the stars. For a little movement one of the stars on the inside has been mounted on a bit of wire I’ve coiled around a pant brush handle.

My birthday, Mother’s Day and our Anniversary all fall in May and spring has sprung, it’s been a busy month for me so I am running very late in celebrating my 1^st BLOGAVERSARY!!! 

I can’t believe it’s been a year already! When my sweet friend Di helped me start up this blog a year ago I had no idea what I was getting into, no idea it would take me around the world where I'd me the most wonderful, kind and creative people who are willing to share so much. Thank you ever so much Di, this has been so much fun.  Thank you to everyone for your encouragement and inspiration. I love all your comments and I appreciate every follower!

Sympathy

We’ve received the sad news that Jim’s niece Kanani has lost her two year long battle with colon cancer. Although I only met her a few times and didn‘t really know her, my heart aches for her family, Jim and my step-children.  Kanani was my kids cousin, they all grew up together and were very close. My card is for her parents. It’s quite simple but I hope it brings them some comfort knowing they are in our thought and prayers.

Help!!

Sorry I don't have a card to share today.  I’ve had one of THOSE days. First my paper trimmer blade was so dull it frayed my card stock. Changed the blade only to find my ATG was out of adhesive and I didn’t have another roll in my stash. Get dress, run up to the craft shop and me without a coupon! Home again, load the ATG and put the card together. All it needed was to trim the ends of the bow. What could go wrong?  I nipped the tip of my finger with my new scissors! Who would have imagined such an itsy bitsy teeny tiny little cut could bleed so much!  You know I bled all over the card. AAGGHH! I’ve turned out the lights in the Closet for the day. I’m afraid of what else could happen in there.

So why do I need your help? I have three white gel pens, Marvy, Tombow and Gelly Roll and I can’t for the life of me get a drop of ink from any of them. They are all new. None of them have that little seal on the tip and I have tried pushing on them to try to get the ink to the tip. Any suggestions before they all go in the trash along with the bloody card.

Blue Birds

Hi There
I hope the weather where you are is lovely.  The sun didn’t shine for long, it’s back to cold, wet, windy and dreary here. I hope those few hot days we had in May wasn’t our summer.

I am so in love with my SU Bird Punch. You may see a lot of these fabulous birds. I’m sure I’ve seen something similar to this card before or maybe it’s just one of the many ideas I’ve had in my head after longing for this punch for so long. I’ve cut out a window with a SB circle then embossed my base card. An EK Success border punch and organza ribbon were used to simulate the roof of the birdhouse. My lovely sister in law Norma sent me these adorable tatted flowers some time ago. They are so tiny it‘s taken me a while to figure out how to use them so they wouldn‘t get lost. I’ve backed them with punched flowers which seems to highlight them a bit. I think Norma will be happy to see them on her birthday card.

Summer Leaves

Hooray the sun is back!  Still cold and windy but it is good to see blue skies and sunshine.  My heart goes out to the victims of the flooding in Wales.  Hope the sun is shining where you are.

A few months ago I was one of three very lucky winners of the Dreamweaver Stampendous joint blog hop. A huge thank you to both companies for the Yummy goodies.  Today I am using one of the Stampendous stamps I won.  I've never used stencils before but will soon do so and share my results.

I‘ve used Stampendous ‘Summer Leaves‘ set for this Father's Day card. I stamped my background with two different size ferns from this beautiful set then embossed with an EF for texture.  For my focal point I stamped the larger fern with VersaMark and heat embossed with Detail White EP. I then stamped with Peeled Paint DI stamped off and stamped again for the faded background.  It's been cut with SB circle then layered on a green SB scalloped circle. I found the free printable sentiment here. A bit of raffia to finish.

Rain Rain Go Away

Good Morning!
It never fails, I wash my car and it turns cold and rainy.  I had a lovely stay in my PJs all day crafty Sunday.  I had so much fun so I don't really want the rain to go away.  Did you watch the Queen’s Jubilee Pageant?  It was wonderful! I thought the Queen looked absolutely fantastic and seems to have enjoyed it all in spite of the rain.

My Internet service has been spotty at best lately and as it is available ATM I will take advantage of it and post all three of my snippet cards at once.

My first card is for our niece Maggie’s birthday. Maggie loves orange and green. I find orange a difficult color to work with so lots of green. I’ve stamped my background with a flourish stamp using ColorBox Celadon ink. I’ve used SB Labels Seven and MS butterflies. The butterflies were painted with glitter nail polish which sparkles IRL but doesn't show up in my photos.  And a little tip, don't fold your wings until your Liquid Pearls has dried.

My second card is for our granddaughter Kili’ohu’s birthday. Kili loves hot pink, another difficult color for me so again lots of green. I’ve used the same layout and background. I’ve wanted this fabulous SU Bird Punch since it first came on the market but anyone who knows me knows I can’t bring myself to buy anything unless I have a coupon or it’s on sale. Jim got fed up with me being such a tight wad and insisted I get it for my birthday or as he said he would find a way to get it himself. Bless his heart. I LOVE IT! My flower is made up of a number of flowers layered together. 

My third card is for our niece Vicky who will be having surgery this week. I’ve used my lovely SU Bird Punch, Sizzix Branch w/ Leaves, EK Success 1” Circle, Scalloped Border and Flower punches, MS Hydrangea punch, Darice Wood Grain EF and SB Classic Oval Lg. All that and I still feel something is missing.

I always punch out more foliage then I need so I've dipped into that little stash of extras and used a bit on each card. Everything not mentioned came from my stash as well.

You don’t want to see the mess I’ve made in The Closet. (I don’t what to see it either.) It’ll take quite some time before everything is back in order. I should be cleaning but I’m headed to the playground to share with Di and the gals instead. I know I’ll need to dry off the swing before I get on but I much prefer that to burning my fanny like I did last time. Come join the fun at Di's Snippet Playground.

Skunks

Hi There

Hope you are all having a lovely day. I woke in the wee hours of the morning to the unmistakable scent of a skunk. Have you ever noticed how a scent can bring on vivid memories? That scent took me back to the first time I ever smelled a skunk.

I was on field training as part of Basic Training in the Women’s Army Corps . Although I am proud of my service, I was a WAC and nothing remotely like the amazing women soldiers serving today.

Our field training was more of a camping trip and all rather silly. Part of our training was to follow a course thru the woods using only a compass to guide us. I was born directionally challenged and in spite of the Army’s best efforts I never learned how to use that compass and still get lost regularly.

I’d failed every written test regarding that compass so my sergeant fully expected me to get hopelessly lost. Imagine her shocked surprise when I emerged from the woods at the proper spot and in record time. It wasn’t until the day after graduation that I finally confessed how I‘d managed it. As I stood in front of that first marker having no idea how to read that compass and no clue what to do next I noticed a path.  I took the chance and it did lead me to the next marker.   Hundreds of women had been on that course before me, it was a simple matter of following their well worn path.  :)  Thankfully I did not run into that skunk but I did smell it.

For my card today I tired the emboss resist technique for the first time. I stamped the Seaside C Minor stamp with VersaMark on white cardstock then heat embossed with clear EP. I’ve sponged over it with Wild Honey DI and a no name green ink by Rubber Stampede and the edges with Vintage Photo DI. The sentiment is another thrift shop find made by D.O.Ts. A band of grosgrain ribbon and some recollection pearls to finish.

Happy Rudolph Day

I'm keeping this short as Mr. Blogger isn’t playing nice this morning. 
This card is for Sandra's Rudolph Day Challenge, and Crafty Hazelnuts Christmas Challenge 73 where the theme this week is 'a touch of the blues’

For my card this Rudolph Day I’ve used a Darice embossing, folder sanded then added Recollections rhinestones, layered on to silver card then matching card blank. I found the sentiment in my stash.

I wish the manufactures would print the names of their embossing folders on them. Sadly I don’t know the names of most of my older EF including this one.

Royal Flush

Hello Everyone!

Thank you all for your lovely comments and sweet birthday wishes.   Sorry I haven't been by to visit you all, my computer is running like dial up these days so it's slow going but I'll be by soon. 
I hope you are all well and enjoying a lovely day. Last week it was sunny and in the high, high nineties. Can we say HOT! This week it’s overcast and breezy with welcomed showers but only in the mid-sixties. Are we ever happy with the weather?

Jim and I will celebrate our 33^rd anniversary on Sat. Our friend John always says 'You know, you get less time for murder.’  Funny guy. This is the card I’ve made for my Jim. When I found an incomplete deck of cards for free at a yard sale I remembered seeing a card like this somewhere. Not sure if it was on the web or store bought and I don’t remember the original sentiment but Jim loves poker so I thought it would be perfect for him. (If anyone knows the original creator’s name please let me know so I can give proper credit.)

Some of my scraps were the prefect size so this was one of the fastest cards I’ve ever made. Although the cards appear to be in a pocket I’ve actually cut the bottom’s off them and covered the cut edges with my sentiment panel.  The Royal Flush isn’t in proper order but I wanted the colorful King to show.  Jim’ll probably have something to say about the sentiment before he sees the inside but I think it‘s fun. The cards on the inside represent 1-4-3 which means I Love You. The Ace is the bottom half of the one on the front. On the left I’ve made a pocket which holds a blank card for my message. Gosh those little thumb punches can take a lot of muscle.

That’s it for me. I’d better get this posted before Jim comes in here and sees it.  I'm off to the playground to share with Di and the gals, wont you join us.  Come on use up some of those scraps/snippets and come play on the swings.  What on earth am I talking about?  Just hop on over here and join the fun.

Back to the Real World

I'm sorry I haven’t been by to visit any of you lately but I’ve been quite busy being Spoiled Rotten.  You see my birthday and Mother’s Day were last week.  Soon it’ll be our 33^rd anniversary and it‘s my first blog anniversary as well. Stay tuned for some candy.

On Sat the 5th, I drove thru the countryside pass bucolic family farms, orchards in bloom and thru ‘blink and you’ll miss it’ towns. Up thru the Wenatchee National Forest and the magnificent trees with wild flowers in yellows, pinks, whites and purples dancing at their feet. Further on thru the Gifford Pinchot National Forest where wild dogwoods peeked thru majestic evergreen trees like stars on a moonless night and still higher where the trees are still dressed in their white winter coats.

My destination was the quaint town of Packwood. I spent quite some time admiring 100+ extraordinary works of art at the quilt exhibit. I enjoyed the craft fair as well but you know I was drawn to the two card makers there.  One was not very friendly but the other was a pure delight. Her cards were all so unique and quite beautiful. I was amazed at her talent for making masculine cards.  We happily shared ideas and discussed a variety of techniques and products for nearly an hour.

On my way back home, not wanting the day to end, I took a hike in the snow thru the forest. The quiet only broken by birds singing and the air so crisp and clean it almost hurt to breath. I even saw a beautiful deer! The breathtaking beauty and serenity of the forest is so refreshing to my spirit I don’t know why I don’t drive up there more often, what an amazing day.

It was a lovely week of phone calls, cards, flowers, gifts, yummy food and visits from family and friends. John called to apologize for not sending me a card. Bless him, I think having a kidney transplant is a good enough excuse don’t you. BTW he is home from the hospital and doing quite well. Jim and I went out to our favorite steak house and our favorite Chinese restaurant. Yahoo, out with my Jim twice in one week, what a treat!  
This week I got the veggies garden planted and quite a bit of weeding done before Jim and I came down with a tummy bug.  We are both well now but it has left us as limp as dish rags. 

My card was inspired by the quilts I saw at the exhibit last week and will be given to the lady moving in next door once she's settled in. I mimicked the colors of one quilt, the design of another and used my swirls EF to mimic the hand quilting used on still another, then cut it out with SB Labels four. The MS butterfly was punched from velum then heat embossed with holographic EP and layered on to another punched from a yellow gingham scrap. The rhinestones are from Recollections.

As soon as I link this to Di’s Snippet Challenge 21  I'll be getting caught up with as many of you lovelies  as possible.

Purple

My dear friend Susie has requested a special card for her niece’s graduation. Susie lives on Maui so we had a wonderful excuse for making a few phone calls which went far and beyond discussing the card. Not surprisingly Susie wanted purples, flowers, lace, butterflies and it had to have a pocket for a gift card.

I didn’t have a large enough dark purple flower so I clustered several small flowers together. I’ve used SB Labels Four, SB Foliage, MS Butterflies. Recollections half pearls.  Lace, flowers and organza ribbon from my stash. The largest butterfly was punched first from pink card then layered with a velum butterfly covered with VersaMark and heat embossed with Sparkle EP.

On the inside I’ve used a MS Daisy Border punch. More MS Butterflies, EK Success Flower punch (Are you getting tired of this little beauty? Hope not cuz I Love it.) I’ve used glitter glue in the flower centers and Gelly Roll pens on the butterflies. Susie is legally blind, as a result her writing is quite large. After completing the card I realized I hadn’t left her enough space to write her massage so I’ve included a simple note card that fits into the pocket.

While I had all my purple snippets, punches, ribbon, etc. out I made a card for Susie herself. The stamp is from Inkadinkado and the little yellow flower from my stash.

These were both made using snippets/scraps so I'm sharing with Di and the gals in the playground for the Snippets Challenge.
