I made this card as a way of encouragement for my sister Donna.
Last night I read a fabulous post by Darnell at djkardkreations. Darnell is a new playmate in the Snippets playground. She says as opposed to life handing you lemons when you are going thru really tough times it is more like life handing you an onion as our problems are usually multilayered. I invite you to read her post here as she expresses it so eloquently.
Donna and her family are going thru a very rough patch right now. Darnell calls them Oniony Days which seems so very appropriate as there really are many layers to this family’s problems. It will take a long time, a lot of determination and no doubt many tears for this family to peel thru the layers of this situation and get back to some resemblance of normalcy. Donna is having an especially difficult time dealing with everything. If you would say a prayer or send positive thoughts her way it would be much appreciated.
It is amazing to me how one person’s problems can act like a pebble in a pond and affect those around them. At the moment I am emotionally caught up in the ripples of several different situations. The worst of it is there is nothing I can do to help any of these situations improve. Everyone has to peel their own onion but I am feeling somewhat emotionally overwhelmed and useless to those I love and care for.
At the moment I am finding it difficult to leave cheerful comments on your blogs. Until I can get my head in a better place and get my spirits lifted I am taking a little brake from blogland.
Again quoting Darnell, I wish you all cotton-candy, sweet peach and strawberry-daiquiri days. See you soon.
I'm sharing with the playmates at Di's Snippet Playground.
Hugs & Blessings
Bernie
Hugs for you Bernie. The hard thing about being there for people is that there is nothing more concrete you can do - it is the 'being there' that makes all the difference and I'm sure they really appreciate you being around. Take care of yourself, and hope to see you back in blogland refreshed and revived soon. M x
ReplyDeleteHi Bernie
ReplyDeleteI know exactly where you are coming from and I am sure the vast majority of people wish they could wave a magic wand and make everything right for those we love and care about .. .. and even for total strangers!
Sometimes there is absolutely nothing we can do other than "be there" for people .. just as M has said .. .. but that is perhaps all that is needed. To know someone is there and willing to just listen.
I think you will find your are giving lots of help and support without even knowing it.
I hope you feel much, much better in yourself soon Bernie.
Take care and I hope to see you around blogland sooner rather than later.
Love and hugs
Jules xx
Can't put it any better than Jules has Bernie, hope you'll be back with us soon. Love your card and the sentiment is so true. Hugs Carol x
ReplyDeleteHi Bernie - so sorry that your sister is having a bad time - it will mean so much to her to know that she has your support and a listening ear. I do hope that you feel better soon and feel able to come back to blogland if only to touch base with us. Will keep you all in my prayers. Take care. Marie-Louise

This is a beautiful card Bernie.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry to hear that your family is having to work through some problems, and that this has a 'knock-on' ripple effect to you. I agree wholeheartedly with M and Jules' comments above.
In the meantime . .. as requested . . . I'm sending positive thoughts your way - they are very powerful you know!
Hoping things can be resolved sooner rather than later.
BIG hugs going to you and yours.

Hi Bernie,
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your kind mention of my oniony analogy to life's problems. I'm so sorry for all the onions your family and friends are holding and peeling right now, but while you are warm-hearted enough to cry along with them when you get a whiff of their onion, please don't let it knock you over and out!
Whenever I'm feeling helpless and wishing I could do more, I send a card. It not only helps the person who gets it, I am in my own happy place when I'm creating. It's a win-win situation!
I've been sending my friend Shirley (breast cancer) a card every single day for over five weeks now. She definitely feels the love! And she says it's been a tremendous positive and supportive act to help keep her going.
So please don't stand under their cloud! They need you to be out in the sunshine where your mojo lives . . . so you can be creative and make cards to send . . . so they can open their mailboxes and find love lives there.
God bless!
Darnell
Beautiful card (AND post), Bernie. Your care for your loved ones is evident in your expressed thoughts, along with the lovely card. You just do what you have to do, for their support and remember to take care of yourself too. It's hard to always be supportive in troublesome times, without it taking a heavy toll on one's own well-being. All the posters before me expressed my thoughts so well. Totally agree. Just keep on peelin' that ole onion,as best you can. Prayers will be said, and sending many cyberspace hugs to you also. Hope DH is doing ok...
ReplyDeleteA lovely card and so lovingly made for your sister.Knowing that your are just being there for her will help her no end. Hugs Mrs A.
ReplyDeleteWhat a very special card...the sentiment is awesome. Saying a prayer for your friend. Take care, Bernie...see you when you're ready to be back.
ReplyDeleteBernie, my loving thoughts are with you always! I may not know all your layers, but I have been praying about one in particular!
ReplyDeleteYou hang in there! Your loving card is so special and you take care of you! Big hugs!
